Installation Suggestions
There are many options for installing Hair Color Columns. Each method requires that a few basic principles are followed. No matter which method you choose, you will need a tape measure and a carpenter's level. The preferred method of hook and loop attachment provides the most flexibility. Hook and loop attachment allows Hair Color Columns to be easily moved when new shades of color are added or when they are discontinued.
If you are installing 50, 100, 200 or more columns you may want to order hook and loop from our website. It is sold in sets, each set includes enough adhesive loop tape and hook dots to install 50 columns.
Each column requires 23 ¼ inches of vertical space plus 2 inches of top clearance for loading bottles and 2 inches width of horizontal space. Adhesive hook and loop can be used alone if you are installing on a solid non-porous surface such as Formica cabinet doors. If you are attaching hook and loop to painted walls or porous surfaces you will need to use staples or small nails every 6 inches for added support. Staples should be place vertically along the loop material. Wood tack strips can be used over rough surfaced walls.
Hook and Loop: To install each box of 50 Hair Color Columns you will require: 300 inches of one inch wide adhesive back loop material 150 7/8" adhesive back hook dots. (or 150 1-inch strips of hook)Step 1: Place a Hair Color Column on the mounting surface (remember to allow 2" of clearance). Mark the surface along the top of the column. Measure down 1 1/2 inches from that mark and using a carpenter's level, mark a horizontal line for the entire length of columns to be installed. This is the top row. From the top line measure down 9 inches and mark another horizontal line. This is the middle row. Measure down from the middle row line 7 3/4 inches and mark a third horizontal line. This is the bottom row.Step 2: Apply a row of the 1inch adhesive back loop material to each of the 3 rows. Make sure to place the top edge of the loop material along the marked line so the loop hangs below each line. Use staples or other attachments to reinforce the loop material as needed.Step 3: Each Hair Color Column has a flat mounting surface on the back. Attached the three adhesive back hook dots (or 1-inch lengths of hook) to the back of each column as follows: one dot at the top of the mounting surface, one at the bottom of the mounting surface and one over the hole in the middle of the mounting surface.Step 4: Once hook and loop is securely in place use the carpenter's level to hang the first column by placing the level next to the column as you press it to the strips of loop. After the first column is in place and level, simply attach additional columns, butting them next to each other side by side.
Nails, Screws or Adhesive: Step 1: Determine where the Hair Color Columns are to be installed (remember to allow 2" of clearance). Using a carpenter's level, mark a vertical line where the left side edge of the first column will be. Place a column along this line and mark the surface through the three mounting holes on the column. These are your mounting marks.Step 2: If using nails, screws or other wall attachments make sure the heads are not too large so they don't interfere with the flow of the bottles in the column. Prepare the surface at the 3 mounting marks as required by your chosen attachment method and install each column. Repeat step one and two for each column. Note: When using adhesive to install, follow step one then place a bead of adhesive vertically from the top mounting mark to the bottom one. Carefully place a column over the adhesive and use the carpenter's level to align it. Repeat this process for each column. Be sure to allow sufficient drying or setting time for the adhesive before adding bottles to the columns.
